PetFirst aligns with
National Benefit Partners to offer pet insurance as employee benefit
Jeffersonville, IN. (January 9, 2008)
- PetFirst Healthcare has aligned with National Benefit Partners (NBP) to make
pet insurance available as an employee benefit for companies across the
country.
PetFirst provides A-rated insurance policies that reimburse dog and cat owners
for veterinary expenses. It was selected as the exclusive pet-insurance
provider which National Benefit Partners will offer in its portfolio of
employer- and employee-paid benefit programs.
"To many dog or cat owners, pet insurance is just as important as health
coverage for family members," said Brent Hinton, PetFirst chief executive
officer. "The employee benefit channel is important to us, and the partnership
with National Benefit Partners will help us quickly ramp up to help companies
enhance their benefit programs."
PetFirst insurance is already available to thousands of employees through the
American Humane Association, Kroger Co. and Eli Lilly Federal Credit Union.
National Benefit Partners, based in Philadelphia and Los Angeles, is a benefits
wholesaler providing voluntary benefits to more than 3,000 employers and 3
million employees. It distributes through a network of professional benefits
advisors and the leading voluntary benefit specialists.
Pet insurance will expand NBP's benefits menu that currently includes life
insurance, vision and dental plans, short- and long-term disability, cancer and
critical illness coverage, identity theft protection, as well as auto and
homeowners insurance. The pet insurance option will be eligible to be paid
through payroll deduction.
"We believe the PetFirst program will be of great value to many companies who
want to continue to provide a strong benefits package to their employees," said
Frank Doherty, managing partner of National Benefit Partners. "It's one of
those special types of non-traditional offerings that can be helpful in
employee recruiting and retention. We looked at all of the current companies in
this market and are confident that we selected the best with Pet First. The
significant increase in veterinary care costs impacts 63% of an employee
population and has driven our interest in Pet Insurance as a voluntary benefit.
Pet First provides a quality response to the dramatic rise in requests for this
benefit over the past two years."
PetFirst will reimburse up to 90 percent of a pet owner's veterinary expenses,
including routine care such as annual exams, vaccinations, flea control and
spay/neuter services, as well as surgeries, x-rays or hospitalization that
result from illness or injury.
