Pet Insurance on the Shelves at Spartan Grocery Stores
PetFirst lands second retail partner

Jeffersonville, Ind. (October 1st, 2007) - PetFirst Healthcare has signed an agreement to offer pet insurance on the shelves and at the checkout lanes of Spartan grocery stores throughout Michigan.

Spartan is the nation's 10th largest grocery distributor with 34 stores. It is the second major retail partner for PetFirst, which last month launched a pet insurance program through Kroger, the nation's largest traditional grocery chain with 2,500 stores.

"Our partners are helping us simplify the pet-insurance process, putting in front of pet owners the information they need to make decisions about protecting the health of their furry friends," said Brent Hinton, PetFirst chief executive officer and former director of the Kentucky Humane Society.

PetFirst will reimburse up to 90 percent of a pet owner's veterinary expenses, including routine care such as annual exams, vaccinations, flea control and spay/neuter services, as well as surgeries, x-rays or hospitalization that result from illness or injury.

Marianne Breen of Warren, Mich. has been a PetFirst Preferred Family Plan policy holder covering four-year-old Hannah, a Labrador Retriever, and Joey, a Greyhound, since March 2007.

"I wanted pet insurance to take care of catastrophic vet expenses," said Breen. "But, it is nice to have the routine maintenance covered as well."
